ABOUT CONNECTFIT

About ConnectFit

What is ConnectFit?

ConnectFit is a full-service fitness equipment company in Newton, Massachusetts, built around long-term client relationships. We design your space, help you choose the right equipment and flooring, deliver and install it with our own crews, and keep it running for as long as you own it.

Most of our work comes from clients who come back for their next home, their vacation house or their company's facility, and from the people they refer. That relationship is the business.

What makes ConnectFit different from other fitness equipment dealers? Why choose ConnectFit?

We do the whole job ourselves, and we stay for the long term. Most dealers sell you a machine and hand off delivery, installation and repair to someone else. ConnectFit designs the space, recommends equipment from more than 70 brands so the advice fits you rather than one manufacturer, installs with our own three-person crews, and services what we sell.

Our founder has spent nearly 30 years in the industry, including as a Chief Product Officer and a VP of Product Development, so we can tell you how a machine is actually built, not just what the brochure says. We custom-cut flooring to minimize seams, buy directly from US manufacturers where it saves you money, and give you straight answers even when that means a less expensive option.

And we measure success by whether you call us again. Our clients come back for their next home, their second home and their company's fitness center, and they send us the people they trust.

Who does ConnectFit work with?

Our residential clients include many of the region's business leaders, executives and investment professionals, along with families building their first home gym. On the commercial side we work with dozens of building management companies, condo and apartment communities, corporate campuses and private training facilities, and with over 1,000 builders and designers. Every client gets the same discretion and attention.

Where is ConnectFit's showroom?

Our showroom is at 84 Needham Street, Newton, MA. You can try treadmills, recumbent and upright bikes, ellipticals, rowers and strength equipment in person before you buy. Call 617-535-3793 or email sales@connectfit.com.

Does ConnectFit sell to homes or to commercial facilities?

Both, equally. For homes, we plan everything from a single treadmill to a complete private gym, and many of our home clients choose the same commercial-grade equipment we install in facilities. For commercial clients, we design and equip fitness centers for residential buildings, offices and private facilities, and support them for years after opening.

Who is behind ConnectFit?

ConnectFit's founder has worked in the fitness equipment industry since 1997. He was Chief Product Officer at what became the largest fitness equipment dealer in the country, then Vice President of Product Development at a leading connected-fitness manufacturer, and has worked with TRUE Fitness for nearly 30 years. He opened ConnectFit in 2020 because no one else was offering truly full-service design, installation and long-term care.

DEALER VS. ONLINE

Buying From a Dealer vs. Online

Should I buy fitness equipment from a dealer or online?

Online can look cheaper on the sticker, but the price usually covers a box at the curb. You assemble it, you figure out whether it fits the room, and when something breaks you are on the phone with a call center. Many brands sold only online have no local service at all.

A full-service dealer lets you try the equipment first, helps you pick the right model for how you will actually use it, delivers and installs it, and is there for service years later. For a treadmill or strength machine you plan to own for a decade, that difference usually matters more than the first price you see.

Is it really cheaper to buy a treadmill or home gym online?

Compare the total, not the sticker. Add freight, white-glove delivery, assembly, removal of your old equipment, and what a service call will cost when there is no local dealer. Then compare warranties: many lower-priced online machines carry short parts coverage. When you add it up, a dealer price that includes delivery, installation and ongoing support is often the better value.

Can I trust online treadmill and home gym reviews?

Be careful. Many "best treadmill" and review sites earn a commission on every sale they send to a retailer, so their rankings follow the payout as much as the product. We wrote A Real Treadmill Buying Guide to explain what actually matters, and Treadmill 101 covers what owning one is really like.

Why do some fitness equipment dealers recommend only certain brands?

Many dealers push their own house brands or private-label lines, or are tied to one or two manufacturers, so their advice leans toward whatever earns them the most. That does not make the equipment bad, but it does mean you may not hear about the better fit for you.

ConnectFit carries more than 70 brands across every price point. Our job is to match the equipment to you, and we will tell you plainly when a less expensive machine is the smarter buy. That honesty is why clients come back.

What should I ask before buying fitness equipment from anyone?

Ask who delivers and installs it, who services it and how fast, what the parts and labor warranty actually covers, whether you can try it first, and whether the seller makes more money on the brand they are recommending. A good dealer will answer all of it directly.

HOME GYMS

Residential Home Gyms

Who designs home gyms in the Boston area?

ConnectFit designs home gyms throughout greater Boston, from a dedicated corner of a room to a complete private training facility. Design is free, and builders, architects and designers bring us in early on new construction and renovations.

Should I buy commercial-grade equipment for my home gym?

For heavy daily use, serious runners, or a household with several users, commercial or light-commercial equipment usually lasts longer and needs less service than typical home-grade machines. We sell commercial, light-commercial and premium home equipment so we can match the machine to how you will actually use it.

What should I look for when buying a treadmill for home?

Look at cushioning and deck quality, motor and roller build, belt length for your stride, warranty coverage, and whether the seller will deliver, install and service it. Start with A Real Treadmill Buying Guide, then Treadmill Motors: AC vs DC.

Do treadmill rollers matter?

Yes. Rollers carry the belt and take the load of every stride, so their size and build affect how smooth the treadmill feels, how hard the motor works and how long the belt lasts. See Treadmill Rollers Matter.

What treadmills have the best cushioning?

Cushioning comes from the deck and suspension design, and it varies more between brands than most people expect. Landice and TRUE, including slat-belt designs like the TRUE Stryker, are standouts. The only real test is to walk and run on them, which you can do in our Newton showroom. Read Treadmill Cushioning: How It Really Works and Slatted Treadmills, Cushioning and the TRUE Stryker.

How do I choose a barbell, dumbbells or a functional trainer for a home gym?

Start with how you train and the space you have. We carry barbells from Solid Bar Fitness (made in the USA), Ivanko and Eleiko, plates from Weight It Out, and functional trainers from Hoist, Inspire, TKO and others. Do you sell connected fitness equipment with classes and screens?

GYM FLOORING

Gym Flooring and Installation

Who installs commercial gym flooring in Massachusetts?

ConnectFit, based in Newton, designs and installs rubber gym flooring for condo, apartment, office and commercial fitness centers throughout Massachusetts, as well as home gyms. Our own crews custom-cut every floor to minimize seams and waste.

Who installs rubber flooring for a condo or office fitness center in Boston?

ConnectFit installs rubber flooring for condo and office fitness centers in Boston and surrounding towns. Facility flooring is a different job from a home gym: it has to control sound and impact for the units below, stand up to heavy daily traffic, and meet building requirements. We plan for all three.

How is commercial gym flooring installed?

Every install starts with a site visit. We check the subfloor, measure the space, plan the layout around your equipment and traffic, and decide on rolls, tiles or a combination. We order material custom-cut to the room to minimize seams and waste, then our own crews install it, loose-laid, glued or over acoustic underlayment depending on the space and the building's requirements.

Can you install gym flooring on an upper floor or in an occupied building?

Yes. For condo, apartment and office fitness centers above other units, we pair the flooring with acoustic underlayment such as Pliteq to control impact noise and vibration, and we schedule the work around the building's rules and residents.

Can rubber gym flooring go over radiant heat?

It needs care. Rubber flooring and radiant heat can be a bad combination, so we review the heating system before recommending a floor. See Fitness Floors and Radiant Heat: A Bad Mix.

Does rubber gym flooring smell?

Lower-quality recycled rubber can give off a strong, lasting odor. Quality flooring is made to minimize that, which is one reason we specialize in ECORE. See Quality Gym Flooring Doesn't Stink, Literally.

What are the most common gym flooring mistakes?

Choosing a floor that is too thin for dropped weights, ignoring sound transmission on upper floors, skipping subfloor prep, and buying the wrong rubber for the space are the big ones. See Gym Floor Mistakes to Avoid.

What gym flooring brands do you install?

We specialize in ECORE, including ECORE Rally, and also install Humane, Pliteq acoustic flooring and underlayment, and Pavigym. See ECORE OSST Flooring and Pavigym.

What is the best flooring for a home gym?

For most home gyms, dense rubber flooring in rolls or tiles protects the subfloor, absorbs impact and reduces noise. The right thickness depends on whether you drop weights, run cardio, or both. We will recommend a floor for your room during your free design consultation.

Still have questions?
